Penedes: The region of Penedes is
considered to be one of the most important wine-growing region in Catalonia due to the
quantity and quality of its wines and Cava's. The most well known vineyards are
Torres, Freixnet and Codorniu.
Its ideal location and temperate climate
provides the basis on which a wide variety of grapes and quality wines are
produced. The region is particularly well known for its aromatic young white
wines, dry white wines, soft rose, and full bodied red wines, plus a number of
brandies distilled from fermented fruit juice called Misteles. The Penedes is
also responsible for more than 90% per cent of the Spain's production of cava.
Emporda: 2 hours north of Barcelona you will find The Castle of
Perelada, Castillo Perelada a few kilometres from Figueres on the plains of
Emporda. The vineyards sandy alluvial soils and grapes varieties that
include macabeo, moscatel, xarel-lo, chardonnay, cabernet sauvignon and merlot
have given rise to a range of Reds, Roses and Cava that have achieved
international acclaim.
Perelada
is a small medieval town in the north-eastern corner of Spain, where the foothills of the Pyrenees
stretch out to the Mediterranean. It is
situated at the centre of the D.O Emporda - Costa Brava.
