| Jewish Heritage Tour
The tour traces the history of the Jewish community through the golden years of the 13th and 14th Century up to the communities decline and finally their expulsion from the Jewish quarter by the Spanish Monarchy in 1492.
As you make your way through the streets of the Barrio Gothic you will discover the daily life of the Jews and the Christians during the 11th, 12th and 13th centuries, come across hidden Mezuzahs in the doorposts and gates of the old town, tomb stones with Hebrew inscriptions that were reused in the Middle ages during the reconstruction of Barcelona, synagogues that were converted into Christian churches and ancient archaeological sites that were once the location of synagogues. | Roman ‘Barcino’ Barcelona
The Romans colonised Barcelona in 14bc and under their rule it became
known as Barcino. The distinctive orthogonal grid of streets can still
be found today in the heart of the old Gothic District.
